DIY Baby Mobile

Today I am sharing another easy DIY! I knew from the minute I found out I was pregnant that I wanted to try and make a baby mobile! And if you like DIY, crafts or sewing like I do, you probably have a lot of these items already in your craft toolbox. Here is how I made an easy DIY Baby Mobile for our nursery.

Heres what I used…

For the Baby Mobile:

*Not exactly the products I used, but I linked similar products here for you for reference!

For the Stand:

And here is I put the mobile together!

  • Cut out shapes with felt.
    • I chose mountains, trees, clouds, and a moon because they were easy to cut and sew. They also go with our woodland nursery!
  • Overlap the felt so you have two of the same shape when you cut.
  • Sew the two pieces together, but leave a little opening.
  • Tear up cotton balls and stuff the shape with cotton fluff.
  • Sew closed.
    • I doubled the thread for added strength and to add a “chunky” look.
  • Repeat for however many shapes you want!
  • To hang, tie a knot on one end of the thread and sew through the top of one shape.
    • Make sure you make your thread that shapes hang from nice and long so you can make any adjustments, and so they can extend upwards to meet in the middle above the wooden hoop.
  • Using your needle add pom poms to the thread!
    • Carefully! They don’t go through easily….I found it easiest to place the pompom on the table and then pierce with the needle from above.
  • Repeat for however many hanging strands you would like!

  • Tie evenly and securely to your wooden hoop.
  • Gather thread into the middle above the wooden hoop, and secure to a wooden bead.
  • Secure a middle strand to the center wooden bead if you want something handing in the middle!

Now, how to hang the baby mobile. I told James that this was his problem but to rest assured, I wanted it hung above her crib. And in typical Hamilton fashion, he used items in our basement to meet our needs!

James glued together the yard sticks and then screwed the L shape piece of a shelf to the top of the yard sticks. I painted it white and wa-la!

I loved this project! And it didn’t take long! Our baby girl, Kinley, loves looking at her baby mobile in her crib, and I love how it looks hanging in her nursery! I get so many compliments on it from visitors to the nursery. A baby mobile would also make an awesome, thoughtful shower gift! Give it a try and show me what you come up with!
